A notebook is a document that starts from blank paper instead of a PDF. Use one for lecture notes, problem sets, or working out ideas. You choose the paper style, color, size, and orientation, and you can add pages in any style as you write.
This page is about handwritten notebooks. To run Python code in .ipynb notebooks, see Jupyter notebooks.

Create a notebook

1

Open the New menu

In your library, tap New, then tap Notebook. With a keyboard, press ⌘ N.
2

Name it

In New Notebook, type a name in Name. If you leave it, the notebook is called “Notebook”.
3

Set up the paper

Choose the options you want. The Preview shows the result, for example “Lined · Letter · Portrait”.
4

Create it

Tap Create. The notebook opens, ready to write on.
New notebooks are saved in the folder you’re viewing.

Paper options

Cornell paper has a header line at the top, a narrow cue column on the left, a wide notes area, and a summary area at the bottom of the page.

Other ways to start a notebook

  • Touch and hold the Lectra app icon, then tap New Notebook.
  • Ask Siri: “Start a new notebook in Lectra” or “Create a notebook in Lectra”.
  • Add the New Notebook control to Control Center, or the Quick Actions widget to your Home Screen. To learn more, see Add Lectra widgets.

Whiteboard

The New menu also has Whiteboard. It opens the same setup as a notebook, with the name “Whiteboard”, and creates a page of the size you choose.

Add pages

When you reach the end of a notebook, swipe past the last page. Lectra adds a new page with the notebook’s paper and shows New page added. Tap Undo in the message if you didn’t want it. To add a page somewhere else, or in a different style:
1

Go to the page before the new one

Go to the page that the new page should follow.
2

Open the pages panel

In the top bar, tap Pages (or Page Overview on a narrower screen).
3

Insert the page

Tap Insert, then tap Blank, Lined, Grid, Dotted, or Cornell.
You can mix paper styles in one notebook, for example lined pages for notes and a grid page for a graph.

Change the paper of a page

1

Open Paper

In the editor, tap More actions (the ellipsis button), then tap Paper.
2

Choose the paper and color

Under Paper, pick a style. Under Color, pick a color.
3

Apply it

Tap Apply to Page.
The change applies to the current page. If it’s the last page, new pages you add afterward use the same paper.

Add paper to a PDF

You can also add notebook pages to any PDF, such as a blank page after each lecture slide. Open the PDF, then insert a page as described in Add pages.

Share or print a notebook

A notebook exports like any other document. To send it as a PDF, tap Share in the top bar. To print it, tap the notebook’s title, then tap Print. To learn more, see Export and share.
