The library is where every document, notebook, and scan you keep in Lectra lives. You can sort and filter it, file documents into folders, star the ones you use most, and open two documents side by side. Everything in the library is stored on your iPad, so it works without an internet connection.

Find your way around

On a full-width iPad, the library has a sidebar on the left and your documents on the right. When Lectra has less room, for example in Split View or Slide Over, the sidebar becomes a tab bar at the bottom with Documents, Inbox, Favorites, and Projects. At the top of Documents, a Recents row shows up to 24 documents you opened recently. It appears in grid view when you aren’t selecting items.

The library toolbar

The toolbar at the top of Documents has these controls:
  • Search: searches your whole library. To learn more, see Search.
  • Filter: shows All, only Documents, or only Folders. It’s available at the top level of your library.
  • View: switches between Grid and List, and sets the sort order.
  • Select: lets you act on several items at once.
  • New: creates a notebook, scan, or folder, imports a file, or starts a recording.
When the window is narrow, the toolbar shrinks to a + button and a ••• button (More library options). The ••• menu holds Search, Select, Filter, View, Sort, and Recently Deleted.

Sort and filter

1

Open the view options

In the toolbar, tap the view button. On a narrow window, tap •••, then tap View or Sort.
2

Choose a layout

Under Layout, tap Grid or List. Lectra remembers your choice.
3

Choose a sort order

Under Sort By, tap one of the following options:
  • Date Created
  • Last Modified (the default)
  • Name
  • Type
Folders always sort by name when you choose Name or Type, and by creation date otherwise. In list view, each row shows the date, a backup status, a star, and a menu. To learn what the backup status means, see Backups.

Open documents

Tap a document’s thumbnail or title to open it. If a document isn’t on this iPad, for example because you removed its download, Lectra downloads it first. You need an internet connection and must be signed in.

Open several documents in tabs

You can keep more than one document open and switch between them with tabs.
1

Open a document

In the library, tap a document to open it.
2

Add a tab

In the editor, tap More actions (the ellipsis button), then tap New Tab. If you already have tabs, tap + (Open another document) next to them.
3

Choose a document

In Open in New Tab, tap the document you want. It opens in a new tab.
When two or more documents are open, tabs appear next to the document title on a wide screen, or in a strip above the page on a narrower one. On a narrow window, a chip such as 3 tabs lists every open document.
  • To switch documents, tap a tab.
  • To rename the current document, tap its tab.
  • To close a tab, tap the x on it.
  • To reorder tabs, drag a tab, or touch and hold it and then tap Move Left or Move Right.
Lectra reopens the same tabs the next time you open a document. Each tab comes back to the page you left it on.
Switching tabs reopens the document, so undo history starts fresh in each tab you switch to. Your work is always saved before you switch.

Open two documents side by side

On an iPad with enough room, you can show two documents next to each other. Each side has its own toolbar, pages, and undo history.
  1. In the editor, tap More actions, then tap Open in Split View….
  2. In Open in Split View, tap the second document.
  • To resize the two sides, drag the divider between them. It snaps to the middle.
  • To work in one side, tap it. The other side dims slightly.
  • To close one side, tap Back in that side’s toolbar.
If the window gets too narrow for two documents, both stay open and a switcher at the top lets you move between them.

Star your favorite documents

To star a document, tap the star on its thumbnail. To remove the star, tap it again. Starred documents appear under Favorite Documents in Favorites. The same page also lists up to 12 Recently Opened documents. To find a document there, use the Search favorites and recents field, which matches titles.

Organize documents into folders

Create a folder

1

Open the New menu

In Documents, tap New.
2

Choose Folder

Tap Folder.
3

Name the folder

In Create Folder, type a name, then tap Create.
Lectra creates new folders at the top level of your library. To put a folder inside another folder, move it there afterward.
You can’t name a folder Scope Inbox or Canvascope Inbox. Lectra uses those names for files sent from Scope.

Rename a folder or change its look

1

Open folder options

Tap the … button on the folder.
2

Rename it

Edit the name in the Folder name field. The new name saves when you tap Return or close the options.
3

Choose a color or icon

Tap Color and pick Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Teal, Purple, Pink, or Gray. Or tap Icon and pick Folder, Course, Work, Reading, Reports, or Notes.
The folder options also include Move, Export, and Move to Recently Deleted.

Move documents and folders

Use any of these methods:
  • Tap the … button on a document or folder, tap Move, choose a destination, then tap Move to “folder name”. To move it back to the top level, choose Documents.
  • Touch and hold a document or folder, then drag it onto another folder.
  • Tap Select, select several items, then tap Move.
In the move sheet, the Search folders field filters the list, and the folder that holds the item now is marked Where this is now.
Folders in Scope Inbox are managed by Scope. You can’t rename them or add files to them, but you can move files out of them into your own folders.

Delete a folder

1

Open folder options

Tap the … button on the folder.
2

Delete it

Tap Move to Recently Deleted, then tap Delete Folder to confirm.
Deleting a folder removes the folder only. The documents inside it move to Documents.
Before you delete a folder that contains other folders, move those folders out first.

Manage a document

Tap the … button on a document (in list view, the menu button at the end of the row). The menu has these items: Lectra doesn’t remove a download when doing so could lose work. For example, if your handwriting on a document exists only on this iPad, you see a message that the document is staying put. To rename a document, open it, tap its title at the top of the editor, then tap Rename.

Download status

When you’re signed in, a document’s thumbnail can show an icon for where it is:
  • Not downloaded: the document is kept in your library but isn’t on this iPad. Open it to download it.
  • Downloading: the document is coming to this iPad.
  • Offline: Lectra couldn’t reach your library yet. The document on this iPad is safe.
To learn how backups work, see Backups.

Select several items

1

Start selecting

In the toolbar, tap Select.
2

Choose items

Tap each document or folder you want. To select everything in view, tap Select All.
3

Choose an action

In the bar at the bottom, tap Move, Export, or Delete. If Apple Intelligence is on, you can also tap Ask to ask about two or more documents at once.
Export in select mode shares each document with your markup on its pages. To learn about Ask, see Apple Intelligence. When you’re done, tap Cancel.

Delete and restore documents

Delete a document

1

Open the document menu

Tap the … button on the document.
2

Delete it

Tap Move to Recently Deleted, then tap Move to confirm.
A message confirms the move. To bring the document back right away, tap Undo in that message.

Restore a deleted document

1

Open Recently Deleted

In Documents, tap ••• (More library options), then tap Recently Deleted.
2

Restore the document

Tap Restore next to the document, or swipe right on it. To restore everything, tap •••, then tap Restore All.
The ••• button appears when the library window is too narrow for the full toolbar. If you don’t see it, make the Lectra window narrower, for example by opening another app next to it in Split View.

How long deleted documents stay

To delete a document for good before then, swipe left on it and tap Delete Now, or tap ••• and then Delete All. If the document was never backed up, this is the only copy, and it can’t be restored afterward.

Add Lectra widgets

You can add Lectra to your Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Control Center to get back to your notes faster. To add a widget, touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen, tap Edit, then tap Add Widget and search for Lectra. You can also touch and hold the Lectra app icon for New Notebook, Scan Document, and Search Library.

Bring in documents

Add PDFs, images, and other files.
