Scope can write practice questions from your own course materials, so you study what your course actually covered. Use a Practice quiz for a short check, or a Practice exam for a full test from one course with an answer key and sources for every question.

Before you begin

  • Let Scope read your courses first. The more course pages and files Scope has read, the better the questions. See Connect your courses.
  • Sign in to Scope to build practice exams. See Sign in to Scope.

Take a practice quiz

1

Open the search bar

On a Canvas or Brightspace page, press ⌘+K or Ctrl+K.
2

Type quiz

Type quiz or practice. The Practice quiz row appears with an AI label.
3

Run it

Press Enter. Scope writes a short quiz from your course materials, with the answer key after the questions and numbered sources you can click.
To ask for a different focus, type a follow-up in Ask a follow-up…, such as “make it about chapter 5”.

Build a practice exam

1

Open the search bar

On a Canvas or Brightspace page, press ⌘+K or Ctrl+K.
2

Type /exam and the course

Type /exam followed by the course, for example /exam bio 1a. The Practice exam row appears. You need the slash: typing exam alone searches your courses instead.
3

Build it

Press Enter. Scope shows Build a practice exam for and the course name, then writes the exam.
If you leave out the course, Scope uses the course you’re looking at. If it can’t tell, it asks Which course is the exam for? and shows a button for each course. Click one.

What a practice exam looks like

  • Practice Exam: about 10 questions, a mix of multiple choice (A to D) and short answer, from easier recall questions to harder applied ones.
  • Answer Key: after a line, with the correct answer and a short explanation for each question.
  • Numbered sources after each question and answer, which link to the course material it came from.
The answer key is visible right away. To test yourself, scroll only as far as the questions, write your answers, and then check the key.

Reopen or rebuild an exam

Scope saves the last exam you built for each course on this browser. When you run /exam for that course again, it opens the saved exam, labeled Saved exam and the date.
  • To build a new one, click Build a Fresh Exam.
  • To replace the exam you’re looking at, click Regenerate.
