Install Scope
1
Open the listing
In Chrome, go to the Scope page on the Chrome Web Store.
2
Add it to Chrome
Click Add to Chrome. Chrome lists what the extension is allowed to do. To continue, click Add extension.
3
Read the welcome page
A new tab opens that says Scope is ready. Click Open Canvas to go to your school’s course site. Scope can’t find anything until you open it once.
Scope used to be called Canvascope. If you installed Canvascope earlier, you already have Scope. It updated on its own and kept your data.
Pin Scope to your toolbar
Chrome hides new extensions behind the puzzle-piece icon. Pinning Scope puts its icon next to the address bar so you can open it in one click.1
Open the extensions menu
To the right of the address bar, click the puzzle-piece icon.
2
Pin Scope
Next to Scope, click the pin icon.
What Chrome asks you to allow
When you add Scope, Chrome shows a short list of what the extension can do. The exact wording comes from Chrome. Here is what Scope uses each kind of access for.
Scope may also ask, at the moment you use a feature, for permission to:
- Sign in with your Google account. See Sign in to Scope.
- Group tabs. Scope asks only when you open several results together and they can go into a named tab group.
Keep Scope up to date
Chrome updates extensions on its own, usually within a few days of a new release. You don’t need to do anything. To see which version you have, open Scope, click the Settings icon, and look at Version under About.Next steps
Connect your courses
Open your course site once so Scope can find your courses.
Search your courses
Press Cmd+K or Ctrl+K on a course page and start typing.
