# Your Scope account

> How one Scope account works across the Scope extension, Lectra, and Polya, how to sign in and out of each app, and how to use Lectra without an account.

One Scope account works across the Scope extension, Lectra, Lectra for Mac, Lectra Receiver for Chrome, and Polya. When you sign in to each app with the same Google account, they all use the same Scope account. That's what lets a PDF you send from Chrome appear in Lectra, and what lets the Scope extension bring a Canvas course into Polya.

Some apps work without an account. The Scope extension searches your courses without one, and Lectra works without one if you choose **Sign in later**.

## How sign-in works in each app

| App | Sign-in options | Without an account |
| - | - | - |
| Scope extension | Google | Search works. **Ask Scope**, **Send to Lectra**, and other account features ask you to sign in. |
| Lectra | Google or Apple | Everything you make stays on your iPad. You can't keep a backup copy of your pages or receive files sent from Scope. |
| Lectra for Mac | Google | Not available. |
| Lectra Receiver for Chrome | Google | Not available. |
| Polya | Google | Not available. |

<Warning>
  **Use Google if you use more than one Scope app.** Lectra is the only Scope app that offers Sign in with Apple. If you sign in to Lectra with Apple, the Scope extension, Lectra for Mac, Lectra Receiver, and Polya can't sign in to that account, so your files won't move between them.
</Warning>

## Sign in

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Scope extension">
    <Steps>
      <Step title="Open Scope">
        In the Chrome toolbar, click the Scope icon. If you don't see it, click the **Extensions** button first.
      </Step>

      </Step>
    </Steps>

    The sign-in page also has **Sign in with email and password**. That option works only for accounts that already have a password. You can't create a new account with it, so new students sign in with Google.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Lectra for Mac">
    Lectra for Mac signs in with Google. Use the same Google account you use in Lectra on your iPad. For the full setup, see [Lectra for Mac](/lectra/mac).
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## Use Lectra without an account

On Lectra's sign-in screen, tap **Sign in later** to go straight to your library. Without an account, you can still import, read, mark up, save, and export documents. Your documents live on your iPad.

What you need an account for in Lectra:

* **Backups.** When you're signed in, Lectra keeps a backup copy of your pages, with your markup drawn on them. Your handwriting itself stays on your iPad. To learn more, see [Backups](/lectra/backups).
* **Files from Scope.** PDFs you send from the Scope extension or Lectra Receiver arrive in your library only when you're signed in to the same account.
* **Your Mac.** Opening your Mac from your iPad and sending files between them need an account on both devices.

When you sign in later, the documents you made without an account stay in your library. Signing in never deletes the documents on your iPad.

## What each app keeps with your account

| App | What's stored with your account |
| - | - |
| Scope extension | PDFs you send to Lectra, your search preferences, and your student profile and suggestions if you use them. Your course search index stays in your browser. Text from your course files stays there too, unless you turn on **Sync course text across devices**. |
| Lectra | Your name and email, a backup copy of your pages when you're signed in, and the PDFs sent to you from Scope. |
| Polya | Your courses and their materials, your Canvas connection if you added one, your study modes, your conversations, and your practice. |

For a plain-language summary of your data, see [Privacy at a glance](/get-started/privacy).

## Sign out

  <Tab title="Scope extension">
    <Steps>
      <Step title="Open Settings">
        Click the Scope icon in the Chrome toolbar, and then click **Settings**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Sign out">
        At the bottom of **Settings**, click **Sign out**.
      </Step>
    </Steps>

    Signing out doesn't remove what Scope saved in this browser. To remove that too, see [Delete your account and data](/get-started/delete-your-account#scope-extension).
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Lectra">
    <Steps>
      <Step title="Open Settings">

        Tap **Sign Out of Lectra**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Confirm">
        Tap **Sign Out**. Your documents stay on your iPad. Sign in again any time to back up new changes.
      </Step>
    </Steps>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Polya">
    * **On a computer:** at the bottom of the sidebar, under your name and email, click **Sign out**.
    * **On a phone:** tap the menu at the top of the screen, and then tap **Sign out**.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## Switch to a different account

To use a different account, sign out of the app, and then sign in with the other account.

In Lectra, documents that belong to one account aren't mixed into another. If you sign in with a different account than the one your documents belong to, Lectra sets those documents aside instead of deleting them, and tells you.

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="PDFs I send from Chrome don't appear in Lectra">
    Make sure the Scope extension and Lectra are signed in to the same Google account. In the extension, check that **Send to Lectra** is turned on in **Settings**. In Lectra, open the **Scope Inbox** and tap **Check for New Files**. For more fixes, see [Troubleshoot Lectra](/lectra/troubleshooting).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My Mac doesn't appear in Lectra">
    Lectra for Mac signs in with Google only. If you signed in to Lectra on your iPad with Apple, the Mac can't reach that account. Both devices need to be signed in to the same Google account. To learn more, see [Lectra for Mac](/lectra/mac).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I signed in to Lectra with Apple, and now I want to use the other apps">
    The other Scope apps can't sign in with Apple, so they can't reach that account. If you need your Lectra documents on a Google-based account, [contact support](/resources/get-help) before you change anything, so you don't lose your backups.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Polya says sign-in didn't go through">
    Go back to the sign-in page and try again. If it keeps failing, [contact Polya support](/resources/get-help#polya).
