# Sign in to Scope

> Sign in to the Scope extension with Google to use Ask Scope, your calendar, Send to Lectra, and other account features, and learn how to sign out.

You don't need an account to search your courses or track what's due. Signing in with Google adds the features that need an account, such as asking questions, adding study blocks to your Google Calendar, and sending files to Lectra on your iPad. It's the same Scope account you use in Lectra and Polya. To learn about your account, see [Your Scope account](/get-started/account).

## What signing in adds

Without an account, you can search all your courses, see what's due, pin and dismiss work, change how Canvas looks, use the GPA calculator, focus timer, notes, and to-dos, and download a course's PDFs to your computer.

Signing in adds:

* [Ask Scope](/chrome/ask-scope), including study to-dos and study blocks on your Google Calendar.
* [Practice exams](/chrome/practice), [syllabus deadlines on your calendar](/chrome/syllabus-deadlines), and the [morning briefing](/chrome/study-plan#the-morning-briefing).
* [Send to Lectra](/chrome/send-to-ipad), and attaching your Lectra work to Canvas and Gradescope.
* [Study in Polya](/chrome/study-in-polya).
* A student profile that tailors answers, and [Connect Canvas](/chrome/connect-your-courses#connect-canvas-with-an-access-token-optional).
* Ratings, grades, and maps in [Berkeley's Schedule Planner](/chrome/berkeley-schedule-planner).

  </Step>
</Steps>

When you're signed in, **Settings** shows your name and email at the top, and the **More actions** menu shows **Account** instead of **Sign in with Google**.

### Why Scope asks for your calendar

Scope reads your calendar only for something you asked for, or for the morning briefing:

* To find free time before it adds a study block.
* To show your week next to a class in Berkeley's Schedule Planner.
* To add events you choose, such as syllabus deadlines, study blocks, or a class.

Your calendar events are read into your browser for that task, and Scope doesn't keep them. For details, see [Privacy and your data](/chrome/privacy-and-data).

## If sign-in doesn't work

| Message | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Couldn't reach Scope right now. Try again in a moment.** | Check your internet connection, then try again. |
| **Couldn't finish signing in. Try again in a moment.** | Try again. If you closed the Google window early, sign in again and finish each step. |
| A tab that says **Close this tab, then sign in again from Scope.** | Close the tab, then sign in again from the Scope popup. |

For more help, see [Troubleshooting](/chrome/troubleshooting#sign-in).

## Sign out

    Click the Scope icon, then click the **Settings** icon (the gear).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign out">

  </Step>
</Steps>

Signing out stops the features that need an account, including the morning briefing. Your courses, pins, notes, and settings stay in this browser. To remove them too, see [Clear Scope's data from this browser](/chrome/privacy-and-data#clear-scopes-data-from-this-browser).

## Remove Scope's access to your Google account

Signing out stops Scope from using your Google account in this browser. To remove Scope's access completely, go to your Google Account, open the page that lists third-party apps and services with access to your account, and remove Scope.

To delete your Scope account and the data kept with it, see [Your Scope account](/get-started/account).
